Perfect smile makes you more attractive

As we get older, our teeth naturally become darker. If you drink tea, coffee, red wine or consume other foods and drinks with strong colorings, your teeth may become discolored earlier in your life. Another major cause of discoloration is smoking, which can make your teeth appear yellow. Tooth decay, fillings and tartar build-up (a hardened form of plaque, which is formed by a film of bacteria on the surface of your teeth) can also contribute to discoloration.

Tooth whitening products can help to lighten your teeth. They usually contain either a chemical called hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. When these chemicals break down, oxygen gets into the hard outer surface (enamel) of your teeth, which whitens them. The whitening effects can last from a few months up to three years. This varies from person to person.

How can you get a Hollywood smile?

There are several different ways you can whiten your teeth. For example, you can buy bleaching kits to use at home, or your dentist can whiten your teeth for you. Bleaching won’t work on false teeth, crowns, veneers or fillings (including tooth-coloured fillings). Instead, your dentist may be able to replace these with lighter ones. He or she can give you advice about the different bleaching methods and which will be the most effective for you.

When not to use teeth whitening products?

  • Poor Dental Health – such as gingivitis, decayed teeth, exposed roots, jaw problems, or if you wear braces. AS above the product may cause irritation if in contact with open wounds and sores. People who are wearing orthodontic apparatus will not be able to safely remove the entire product after use; the product may also discolor or tarnish braces.

  • Pregnant or nursing – the hormones release during pregnancy and breast feeding weaken gums and cause bleeding, as with any home treatment, open or sore wounds should not come in contact with foreign substances for risk of penetration into the bloodstream and acute irritation

  • Under 18 years of age – A person who is not yet considered an adult, does not have the strength of the gums as an adult does. New teeth may still be erupting, including wisdom teeth, and gums will be more sensitive than that of a fully grown person.

As with all home treatment products some rare but reversible side effects have been reported including irritation and tooth sensitivity. If this occurs either stop using the product and seek advice, or decrease the amount of time you spend with the trays in your mouth.
